Asian Eyelid Surgery

WHAT IS ASIAN EYELID SURGERY?

Around 50 percent of the asian population lacks a fold above the upper eyelid. Having the natural upper eyelid fold can prevent you from having bright and defined eyes. This “double eyelid” procedure will provide you with a youthful, bright, and expressive face while maintaining your beautiful ethnicity.

Dr. Chen can offer plastic surgery techniques that can be customized for your eyelid anatomy and desires to create a natural, attractive result.

WHAT IS YOUR TREATMENT APPROACH TO ASIAN EYELIDS?

Non-incisional procedure

For young Asian patients with thin eyelids, Asian double eyelid folds can be achieved with sutures that are passed inside the eyelid to create the crease. The surgeon will use either a continuous suture or independent fixation sutures depending on your anatomy and desired shape. There are no scars, and swelling is minimal with this technique.

Incisional procedure

Asian eyelid patients who have thick, heavy eyelid skin with excess underlying orbital fat may be candidates for the incisional procedure. This technique involves cutting the excess skin and underlying fat and sutures are involved. The scar will heal within the newly created fold.

WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA IS USED DURING PLACEMENT OF ASIAN EYELID SURGERY?

Asian eyelid surgery is an outpatient surgery and may performed under local or general anesthesia. The procedure takes around one hour to complete.

WHAT IS THE POST OPERATIVE CARE AND RECOVERY LIKE AFTER ASIAN EYELID SURGERY?

Incisional procedure can take about one week to recover while non-incisional can take two or three days. You will follow up with Dr. Chen after surgery to ensure you are healing well. You will be prescribed pain medication to ease any discomfort.
