Nipple Surgery

WHAT IS NIPPLE SURGERY?

Nipple surgery is performed on men or women who have inversion, protrusion, or misshapen nipples. Nipples come in various size, shape, and coloration. Some may be flat, prominent, retracted, or puffy. You can have your nipples surgically corrected by Dr. Chen to improve the aesthetic look of your nipples.

WHAT IS YOUR TREATMENT APPROACH TO NIPPLE SURGERY?

Nipple Reduction surgery

People who have prominent or enlarged nipples may need reduction in the nipple size and shape. This may entail shortening the height or circumference of the nipples.  Special techniques are used to create this reduction while maintaining the natural shape of the nipples.

Misshapen nipple surgery

People who have asymmetric or abnormally shaped nipples may wish to change the appearance of the nipple. This may entail making the nipples more circular or more symmetric to the other side.

Inversion nipple surgery

People who have nipple inversion, or nipples that indent into the areola or breast, may have fibers that are tethering down the nipple. These fibers may need to be divided in order to allow the nipples to project out.

WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA IS USED DURING NIPPLE RECONSTRUCTION?

Nipple surgery is an outpatient surgery. Nipple reconstruction can be performed under local or general anesthesia. The procedure can take one hour to complete.

WHAT IS THE POST OPERATIVE CARE AND RECOVERY LIKE AFTER NIPPLE SURGERY?

Most people return to work after 2 or 3 days, but the full healing process takes about 6 weeks.
