Blepharoplasty

WHAT IS A BLEPHAROPLASTY?

Blepharoplasty removes droopy eyelids and involves removing excess skin, muscle, and/or fat of the upper or lower eyelids. As you age, your eyelid skin relaxes and muscles weaken, resulting in excess tissue. This may lead to a tired or older look and even visual field obstruction.

Blepharoplasty can reduce or treat these problems and make your eyes look more youthful and more energetic. This surgery can be performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids.

WHAT IS YOUR TREATMENT APPROACH TO BLEPHAROPLASTY?

Upper blepharoplasty

For upper blepharoplasty, this surgery involves removing the excess skin above your eyelid crease. This may also involve removing some of the underlying muscle and fat if they are promient. Typically very small sutures are used below the skin level to close the wound. The scars will usualy heal within the skin fold of your eyelid crease.

Lower blepharoplasty

This surgery involves removing the excess skin and underlying fat of the lower eyelids. The incision, called a subciliary incision, is typically made right below the lower eyelash. Typically very small sutures are used below the skin level to close the wound. The scar will heal right below the lashes and are typically well hidden.

The upper and lower blepharoplasty may be performed separately or combined, depending on your condition and areas of concern. This surgery may also be combined with other procedures such as brow lift, facelift, or skin resurfacing.

WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA IS USED DURING PLACEMENT OF BLEPHAROPLASTY SURGERY?
